It’s Alright Ma

Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Made everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It’s easy to see without looking too far
That not much
Is really sacred.

– Bob Dylan ‘It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)

“Church buildings are sacred… just like everything else.”

– Mark Driscoll

Question: how do we create some places, moments, activities that are rich and sacred? Do we need to?

Upton makes every place, moment, and activity sacred. Everyone knows this.

I think we need to erect spiritual fences around certain things in our lives. Satan desires to come in and destroy as much as he possibly can. If we don’t villigantly stand guard many things just slip through the cracks and we miss some of what God has for us.

consecrated: made or declared or believed to be holy; devoted to a deity or some religious ceremony or use; “a consecrated chursh”; “the sacred mosque”; “sacred elephants”; “sacred bread and wine”; “sanctified wine”

I don’t know. I think we have made a lot of sacred things “everyday”. It seems like we’ve made Jesus a marketing, political, or self-promotion tool. Maybe the key is self-evaluation and finding those eternal things that we’ve humanized.
